Call of Duty – World at War, Solo start error (fixed)
When you start a new solo game in COD-World at War, it refuses to start, especially with the RELOADED version. It doesn’t start even if you go via the missions menu, it just stays idle. If you are facing this issue, there is a simple fix thankfully. Follow these simple steps.
EDIT : FIXED VISTA PATH
- Navigate to the folder :
- XP users :C:Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Activision\CoDWaW\players\profiles\
- Vista users : C:Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Activision\CoDWaW\players\profiles\
- Delete all the folders in there.
- Create a new folder with the name of the Profile ex: tHeSiD (folder remains empty)
- Create text file: active.txt (must NOT be readonly)
- Open active.txt and type in your profile folder name (tHeSiD)

go to RUN
type %TEMP% in the field and hit ok
an explorer window will open pointing to the temp folder.
go UP once
that folder will be your local settings folder, you’ll find activision in it.

If you can’t see the folders in the paths mentioned, search for a folder “codwaw” in your system (whole system is preferred) if you find it, exec the mentioned steps on that folder. Else, if you still cant find the folder, manually create them as HoLybean did. :)

just create the path mentioned,
go to the Application Data\ or AppData\ folder
then create the Activision folder
then inside it the CoDWaW folder
inside it, the players folder, and inside it the profile folder.

I had the problem too that when you click New game and choose difficulty nothing happens I just changed the cdkey to another and ran the game again and it worked Start -> Run -> type Regedit -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Activision -> Call of duty waw -> codkey Change it to another And remember to type the cdkey without spaces or dashes between the numbers/letters Then run the game again, worked for me.

Another way to do it is to either disconnect the network cable or disable the NIC (Network Interface Card) in Windows. I took my PC into work and didn’t connect it to the network and it started solo play with no problem.

try updating your graphics drivers to the latest forceware available, also the other drivers such as sound etc.

Application Data is a hidden folder and not shown by default. Make sure you set up your windows to show hidden files and folders.

second problem: could not locate folders \players\profiles\

In the active.txt enter the specific profile name and save it.
Again in the profile folder create a sub-folder with the specific profile name.
DO NOT create the active.txt in the specific profile name sub-folder.

Had no profiles, removed file servercache.dat and launched the game, after this the profiles folders appeared and could be fixed as described here.

When you try to get to the destination \appdata\blablabla
you have to set “Show hidden files” to ON .. becaouse Appdata is hidden.
there is also two app data.. “for me there is anyway” in windows xp i were in the wring one =) so this should be the path.
THE RIGHT ONE:
C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Lokala inställningar\Application Data\Activision\CoDWaW\players\profiles
AND THE WRONG ONE:

THIS IS A SOLUTION TO ALL CREATE ACCOUNT PROBLEMS !
1. install the game 1.0
2. apply the patch 1.1
3. download latest punk buster , just google for it , and update it.
4. WINXP :C:\Documents and settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Activision\CodWaW\players\profiles
VISTA:C:\Users\%NAME%\AppData\Local\Activision\CoDWaW\players\profiles
If you cant find the directories mentioned above , YOU NEED to create them and continue with 5.
5. DELETE all what is in there.
6. Create an empty directory named what profile you want to have, my case : DraYKorE.
C:\Documents and settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Activision\CodWaW\players\profiles\KOMAP\
7. Create a TEXT file called Active, in profiles dir.
C:\Documents and settings\%NAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\Activision\CodWaW\players\profiles\Active
Open the text file, and write your profile name inside.
8. Download X-Fire gaming software.
MAIN KEY to this method , is the X-fire. You can connect to Cracked servers through X-fire straight without even touching the profile Checker.
9. Now get the IP for a cracked server
10. Go to your launched X-fire , click on servers (tab at the top), select add game server to Favourites (at the bottom), Select the game = Cod WaW in the list , and copy the server IP into it.
11. Select this new added server , and press PLAY at the bottom. or just Doubleclick it.
12. There 3 options what will happen next.
a. 80% You will successfuly connect to the server and play as YOUR PROFILE
b. 15 % You will get kicked to main menu , but with message : Cannot connect to online SEVICE, that will NOT set your profile to default. in this case u can just open your CONSOLE and type reconnect to connect to this server again , or just leave the game to try another server
c. 5 % You will get your usual shitty error : you need a profile to play > Cancel > No and it will reset your profile to default $$$. now , you exit the game , go back to
C:\Documents and settings\%NAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\Activision\CodWaW\players\profiles\
delete the $$$ folder, open Active.txt and replace $$$ with your profile name again. Save the document and try other servers.
Well thats kinda it guys , it works for me , playing for over 2 days , rarely deleting $$$ folders and changing Active.txt. just get X-Fire installed and always connect through it… :)

When trying to run CoDWaW in co-op mode instead of the game running it pops up an Internet Explorer web page saying this program cannot display the webpage. any idea why it would do that? For guys using Vista: I went to my folder …Users/my name and AppData folder wasn’t there, but when i wanted to create it said: folder already contains AppData.. So i went for properties and thick Hidden and then another time unhidden it.. Now it works for me:) try it you will thank me later;)

@ Slacker: No, you should find your (profile-) name under the “User” Dir. It is the same name shown when you log in. So, it’s not literally “USER_Name”, you should replace that with the profilename you entered when creating your WinXP/Vista account on your PC.

Easiest way to Fix (I have VISTA)
Start -> Run -> type Regedit -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Activision -> Call of duty waw -> codkey
Change it to another
Remember to type the cdkey without spaces or dashes between the numbers/letters (Any thing e.g: 123456789)
I just double click on the codkey, and changed the last letter to something else, and worked.

Alright, for those of you who have this problem of getting an error saying “couldn’t load image gamfonts_pc.iwi”, just download this file and follow the instructions in the readme. Warby35 is right, this DOES work!!!! just change the cdkey as mentioned, problem in aircraft mission though,keeps reporting a certain error and have to restart game in order not to lose your saved game (the mission from the start,not checkpoint resume).otherwise you are only allowed to start a new game.

Then open your cod5 folder and look for iw_03.iwd. After you’ve found it, open it with winrar and drag the gamefonts_pc.iwi in. Then it should work (:

hey ben, I guess either the disc is the problem or the drive, take the dvd to a friends and test it there. If it installs fine there then you need to replace your drive. If you still cant do that copy the contents of the dvd to a portable drive at your friends, come home and install. When it asks for dvd insert the dvd it should work. If it still doesnt, replace your drive or get a no cd exe.
If in any case the disc (dvd) itself doesnt work, you need to get it replaced.

I did what you said, deleted everthing inside the Players folder. I then remade a folder and called it ‘Nervi’ and then remade the text file and had ‘Nervi’ written in the text file. I start the game, same problem. I look back in the Players folder and I find that the ‘Nervi’ folder is still there but a ‘$$$’ folder has been created and in the text file, ‘Nervi’ is no longer written, but instead its been replaced with ‘$$$’

If your using Vista, follow these steps, it will work.
Start>Control Panel>Sound
Right Click on the default playback device (e.g. Speakers) and click properties. From there select the Advanced tab.
To eliminate this error the default playback format must be set at 24 bit 48000Hz (Studio Quality). Simply select this from the dropdown list and apply the settings.\
It should work, if select select “16bit with CD qaulity”.
Try launching the game now-Everything should run fine.

I did the fix thesid started on this thread and had problems every time I tried to start the game. It would crash and give me a message that there were too many user names, for some reason all the other user names would reappear in my C:Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Activision\CoDWaW\players\profiles\ folder.
I couldn’t figure out what the problem was and i know I made the active.txt NOT read only but it still wouldnt work until: …I ALSO MADE THE (thesid) FOLDER NOT READ ONLY. SO try making the user name you create in the profiles folder a NOT read only folder.

Another way to do it is to either disconnect the network cable or disable the NIC (Network Interface Card) in Windows. I took my PC into work and didn’t connect it to the network and it started solo play with no problem.

Here is what worked for me in Windows 7. I had nothing in the CoDWaW folder as some of you have said as well. I unplugged my network cable. COD will then start and since it don’t see a net connection it will then create a profile folder. Set up the game as you like and start the game in SOLO. Do not click on ONLINE. Exit the game. Plug back in your net cable and the game should now start correctly in SOLO. Good luck.

The fix works. if you can’t find the folders players/profiles you have to select “show hidden files and folders” in the My Computer browser
For Vista: go to Computer, in the top panel menu go to Organize,select Folder and Search Options, go to the view tab and select Show Hidden Files and Folders

after copying all the files i took following steps:
1) Extracted ‘CoD-Skullptura’ from CoD.part01 to some new folder.
2) Extracted ‘Call of Duty – World at War’ from CoD-Skullptura
3) Ran ’setup.bat’
It started extracting and completed the extraction of Data1 file but after that nothing happened the screen showed 5% extraction completed. Did anyone face a similar problem. Whats the solution to this????
